Massage has been used for thousands of years as an intuitive way to soothe the body and mind. It provides a truly holistic approach to health and can be used alongside modern medicine.
What is this amazing treatment I offer?
One of the most popular massages available, Swedish massage uses a range of massage movements, with oil, to increase the flow of blood and oxygen to the muscles. This increased flow flushes away the toxins which build up in muscles over time. Removing these toxins leads to a decrease in the recovery time for muscular injuries whilst stretching out ligaments and tendons. Swedish massage will also boost blood flow to the skin, soothe the nervous system and can help to reduce physical and emotional stress.
Massage can help with:
- Muscular aches and pains
- Emotional Upset
- Circulatory problems
Too much stress in our lives can quickly affect us in negative ways. Some people will know they are suffering from stress but others may only experience the physical effects that it can cause. Essential oils combined with massage offer a gentle and completely holistic way to bring greater balance in your life.
Many of us suffer with tight muscles in the upper back, neck and shoulders or nagging lower back pain which can lead to great discomfort. Aromatherapy treatments can help to relieve back pain and tension and raise your awareness of poor posture.
What happens during a treatment?
During an massage treatment you will take off all appropriate clothing as required and settle yourself onto my massage couch. You will be covered up for modesty using towels and kept warm in a soft fluffy blanket. Calming/Relaxing music maybe played and lighting and atmosphere made to be relaxing.
Your massage will meet your requirements after having discussed through at the initial lifestyle consultation. . (This discusses the individuals medical history as well as their needs and expectations.)
Usually a massage session lasts between 30mins to an hour dependant on your needs. After the first session or two your body may respond in a very definite way i.e. a feeling of relaxation and well being or rejuvenated. It all depends on the body’s needs and shows that your body is responding to treatment.
The number of sessions needed, will vary from person to person. If the aim is relaxation, then one session is wonderful - maybe topping up once a month to maintain the benefits!
The effects may be felt at the first treatment, or it may need several treatments for changes to be noticed. Depending on your aims, treatments may be weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or you may just come for a "top up" when you feel the need.
Who can benefit from massage?
Massage is suitable for men, women and children of all ages. It is best avoided in the first three months of pregnancy. There are some medical conditions where it may not be possible to carry out treatment, which is why a full consultation is carried out before commencing. This also allows the treatment to be tailored to your own needs.
If you have any serious medical conditions or take medication, it is advisable to check with your doctor before making an appointment.
